Barcelos WWTP – the new benchmark in the wastewater sanitation sector in Portugal
Rittma supported the Municipality of Barcelos in preparing the application for the construction of the new Barcelos Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), one of the largest investments under Portugal 2030 – €36.2 million, of which approximately €25.3 million are co-financed by the ERDF. In addition to assisting with the preparation and submission of the application, Rittma was also responsible for drafting the Financial Viability Study (EVF).
The new WWTP will completely replace the existing infrastructure, incorporating state-of-the-art technology. The project includes advanced nitrification/denitrification processes, tertiary treatment with ozonation, energy efficiency measures, and on-site renewable energy production.
